“It is typical for people to give up on many of their goals at the end of January. “A new poll of 2,000 Americans found that it takes just 32 days for the average person to finally break their resolution(s) — but 68% report giving up their healthy habits resolutions even sooner than that.”

How We Can Help Each Other with Our Health Goals

With one month into the new year, and a whole new month on the horizon, I wanted to check in with your health goals. I thought it would be nice to set up a safe place to talk more about the power of a plant-based diet and how to achieve it in our busy lives. My goal this year is to share my approach to healthy living with many of my simple and practical tips that anyone can implement. And I want us to be an active support system cheering each other on while we learn how to navigate the art of healthy habits and new lifestyles.

Making Healthy Choices for a Healthier Planet

There is so much to explore with this subject. One area that I hold near and dear to my heart is when I started connecting with the organic, locally grown farms, and my community here in Colorado. There are so many of us that want a drastic change in this world and we can no longer be afraid to speak up about the changes we must all face. Our eating choices are not only detrimental to our health but also the health of the planet. And 2020 is going to be the year where we need to hold ourselves and each other accountable when we are trying to accomplish our health goals(and any goals for that matter) in the new year.

Healthy Habits Are a Lifestyle Choice

Healthy living is a lifestyle that is a choice you have to make every day. If you have broken your health goal by now, it is not too late to get back on track. Don’t be hard on yourself if you said f* it and went for that doughnut today. It’s important to not be hard on yourself. We all indulge in our own ways. But we must stay disciplined the majority of the time if we want to see results.

Being More Mindful with Food

Successfully eating healthier first comes down to being more mindful and aware of what you are putting into your body and how it makes you feel. I started my wellness journey by starting to ask questions about the food I was putting into my body. And paying attention to my body when it would have a bad reaction to certain foods.

We Have to Do Our Own Research

I started to do more research on the food industry. There were many instances where I discovered some unsettling information. So I started to work towards eliminating questionable foods from my diet one by one. It is important to do your own research when it comes to our food industry.

There are so many hidden truths and aspects to uncover. And we must all seek out this information ourselves. Because hearing it from a friend, family member or stranger doesn’t always do the convincing we need. We must remain curious about the truth and stay informed with the constant new wave of research in the health and wellness industry. We can no longer hide behind our denial in this information age that we all live in.

Don’t Set Yourself Up to Fail

Remember, you are setting yourself up to fail if you don’t have the right mindset. If you are approaching your diet as a temporary fix the beneficial results will also be temporary. It is really important to be ready for a drastic change. Approach your healthy habits with persistence and patience. Learn how to keep going even if you are not receiving instant gratification. If you are committed to shifting your mindset around food and actively making necessary changes on a daily basis. Then you will be rewarded with a healthy mind, body, and spirit. I’m certainly not saying this is easy, it all takes time and a lot of practice.

Master One Healthy Habit at a Time

If you want to start adopting a simple way to approach a healthy habit. Then just start with one thing at a time. Starting with one area, mastering it and moving on to the next. Small steps can be the most impactful. Try just eating vegetables with every meal. Don’t burn out by trying to take on more than you can handle.

This is why choosing to diet (no matter which diet it is) sets you up to fail. Mastering eating more plants every day then slowly work your way into reducing animal products and processed foods. Find healthier substitutes, have a plant-based meal every week, have a meatless week every month. Wherever you are in your journey, don’t compare it to anyone else. We all start somewhere different and have many different challenges we are facing. The only important thing is starting somewhere and setting these goals so you can have a healthier more abundant life.
