How To Start Implementing A Better Morning Routine

“How you wake up each day and your morning routine (or lack thereof) dramatically affects your levels of success in every single area of your life. Focused, productive, successful mornings generate focused, productive, successful days—which inevitably create a successful life—in the same way, that unfocused, unproductive, and mediocre mornings generate unfocused, unproductive, and mediocre days, and ultimately a mediocre quality of life. By simply changing the way you wake up in the morning, you can transform any area of your life, faster than you ever thought possible.”

Hal Elrod

Start to align your day, and get more done, with these 5 morning routine practices. First you will need to start waking up early so you can set time aside for reading, journaling, meditation, and exercise. If you conquer these tasks in the first part of your day you will start to feel energy, life, joy, and passion re-enter your life. And you will be able to conquer anything you set your mind to.

Wake Up Early

One habit that has drastically changed my ability to set up a more productive morning routine is waking up early.

It simply starts with setting the alarm and waking up early enough to have time for yourself and your most important tasks.

This may be easier said than done for many of us. But if we discipline ourselves enough to wake up at the same time every day our bodies will start to naturally adjust to the early mornings.

Make sure you are still taking care of your health by getting proper sleep 7-8 hours every night. If we don’t go to bed early enough it is impossible to start our day on the right foot.

Whatever you do, do not ever hit snooze. This will set you up for a lazy start to your day that is nearly impossible to recover from.

If you don’t give yourself time to enforce positive habits in the morning then the rest of your day will feel lazy and unproductive. All because of a few extra minutes of sleep, you set your self up for an entire day of lackluster effort. This is often why we never get anything done even when we have the time to do it.

The exact wake-up time solely depends on your schedule. But you are going to want to have enough time to take care of your mind, body, and spirit. That way you can conquer your day with laser focus and energetic productivity.

Journal Your Affirmations

Keeping a morning journal for positive affirmations can be a great tool for replacing negative thoughts that turn into negative energy that is hard to shake off.

We often get depressed if we get stuck on social media because we are comparing ourselves to others and wishing we had what they had. If we stop this bad habit and replace it with journaling about what we are grateful for. Then we will realize we have a lot of amazing things happening in our lives that we forgot about.

Start by writing 3-10 things you are grateful for in your gratitude journal then you will be able to re-wire your brain with positive language that helps fill your heart with joy and peace. Exactly what all of us need when we start our day.

Read

Starting the day with something that you are excited to learn is a great way to get the brain going and strengthen your mental health. This will also help inspire new ideas that will ignite excitement to get out in the world and build up some of your biggest dreams.

Without reading in the morning we stay closed off to ideas and opportunities that could change our lives. Again put the phone down and pick up a book from the library.

This is the greatest way to get out of that funky stuck feeling because you are letting yourself feel empowered by learning new skills that you can then start to conquer in real life. Reading is truly transformational if you incorporate it into your daily routine.

Have A Meditation Tea Ceremony

The biggest cause of stress and anxiety is drinking too much coffee in the morning or even all day. Most of the time if you are drinking coffee all morning, like most of us do, you can start to feel your adrenals overload with stress. Which is really not an ideal way to start our morning.

Coffee is a hard addiction to quit. And something I still haven’t come to terms with. I know it would be a great benefit if I were able to cut this stressful morning habit out of my life. But I have been able to cut back and I already feel the difference.

I’ve turned my 2-3 large cups of coffee into one small cup of coffee. When I finish the first cup of coffee I start my tea ceremony.

I learned about this Chinese tea practice from a tea shop called Mountain Gate in Telluride. Read more about it on their website and my blog post.

Incorporating this ancient practice allows you to give yourself a moment of peace and meditation. Learning the art of this practice is all about slowing down and connecting to nature. It is best to drink your tea in a quiet space outside.

Letting the herbs connect you to the Earth. Grounding your mind and spirit. These traditional teas from Mountain Gate all have an inner spirit that offers something different to your morning practice.

Exercise

After you have eased into your day with reading and tea it’s time to get moving. Working out in the morning gives your body the chance to release energy that is caught deep inside your muscles and tendons. A daily work out is essential for any ones morning routine and over all health.

Moving your body can be done in a number of ways. It doesn’t always have to be an hour session. Even 15 minutes of yoga with deep breathing or walking outside can do wonders for your mood.

There are study’s saying that our bodies hold a lot of negative energy and trauma. Practicing how to release negative tension is essential for our well being. Plus you get the benefits of endorphins tickling the happiness receptors in your brain. So you can be ready to tackle anything you set your mind to.
